Ether Monument, Public Garden, Boston [graphic]. [ca. 1890]

View of the Ether Monument in Boston's Public Garden. The monument was commissioned by Boston philanthropist Thomas Lee to commemorate the discovery of ether as an anesthetic. Henry Van Brunt of the architectural firm of Ware and Van Brunt, designed the monument; John Quincy Adams Ward sculpted the four marble bas reliefs and the crowning granite figures entitled "The Good Samaritan." The monument was unveiled and dedicated on Setember 26, 1868.
